A Small George II Oak Welsh Dresser

A fine small example of a North Wales enclosed, or “cupboard” dresser. The stepped rack, with boarded back, and three plate shelves. The base, with three drawers, the centre one slightly smaller, above a narrow centre section, flanked by two doors. The drawer fronts, cupboard doors, centre section and ends, are all constructed with raised and fielded panels. The dresser stands on extended stile feet, retains the original brass “pulls”, and has a wonderful rich colour and patina.

Richard Bebb illustrates a very similar dresser from the same “workshop”, in his book Welsh Furniture, 1250-1950, Volume II, page 100, which he attributes to Merioneth, Caernarfonshire.
